Life @ Jalala IDPs Camp - 01
All pictures are taken at the Jalala relief camp in Mardan district (115 km from Peshawar) set up on May 07, 2009 for the 'internally displaced persons (IDPs)' of Buner, Dir and Swat districts.
145,611 families registered
145,611 IDPs families, over one million individuals registered at various registration points PESHAWAR, May 16 (APP): A total of 145,611 families and 11,10,170 persons have been registered by the Provincial government at various registration points in District Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Abbotabad, Haripur, Manshera, and Malakand. Out of 145,611 families, 20642 whereas 127649 individuals out of 11,10,170 persons have been registered inside camps. Similarly, 124969 families and 982521 individuals were registered outside camps at different registration points. According to the details, 1519 families and 8880 individuals have been registered in Kachagari Camp No. (1) Peshawar while in Kachagari Camp No. (2) Peshawar 1084 families and 6466 persons have been registered. A total of 489 families and 2976 persons were registered in Peshawar District Palosa Camp (Charsadda) while 400 families and 2503 individuals were registered at Benazir Camp (Risalpur) (Distt. Nowshera). The number of registered IDPs families stand at 10228 and 62766 individuals were registered so far at Jalozai Camp District Nowshera. As many as 3555 persons while 485 individuals were registered in Samar Bagh Stadium (Dir) while 77 families consisting of 488 persons were registered at Degree College Stadium (Dir) Sadbar Kalay. A total number of registered families stood at 205 while that of individuals at 1463 at Degree College Timergara while 320 families comprising 2206 individuals were registered at Commerce College Camp Timergara (Dir). The total number of registered families remained 538 while that of individuals was 3187 at Sakha Kot (Malakand Dargai) while 1265 families and 8033 persons were registered at Jalala (Mardan). Likewise, 1345 families and 8065 persons were registered at Sheikh Shehzad (Mardan) while 704 families comprising 3903 persons were registered at Yar Hussain (Swabi). As many as 1914 families consisting 12638 persons were registered at Sheikh Yasin (Mardan) Camp while 87 families and 520 individuals were registered at Shah Mansoor (Swabi) Camp. Similarly, 1281 families and 7686 persons were registered at registration points outside camps at Abbotabad, 280 families consisting 1680 persons in Haripur, 300 families and 1800 individuals at Manshera, 69367 families while 550612 individuals were registered at Mardan. As many as 28059 families and 193608 individuals were registered outside camps in Swabi, 8646 families and 91692 individuals in Malakand, 3043 families comprising 21832 persons in Nowshera, 4571 families and 28813 individuals were registered at Charsadda whereas 9422 families and 84798 individuals were registered at Peshawar. A total of 75 registration points were set up out of which 15 were established in District Swabi, 28 Mardan, 16 in Charsadda, 3 in Kohat, 10 in Nowshera and 3 in Peshawar. |

PESHAWAR: With thousands of terrified people still streaming out of the conflict-hit areas of Malakand region, the number of fresh registered internally displaced persons (IDPs) off-camp has crossed one million individuals on Friday as the number of all the registered IDPs has increased to over 1.7 million.
The official figures update received from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) shows that around 133,557 families with 1.018 million individuals have so far been registered at different centres set up for registration of off-camp IDPs at Mardan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar and Swabi.
Moreover, around 21,291 families having 162,632 persons have so far been registered at different camps set up for the newly arriving IDPs.
The number of registered IDPs would increase further as large number of them who fled Mingora and other areas during relaxation of curfew on Friday have yet to be registered.
The total registered IDPs including both old and fresh has increased to 244,207 families with 1.716 million individuals.
Now the total number of registered off-camp IDPs has increased to 211,073 families with 1.481 million individuals which also include the old registered 77,516 families (462,528 individuals) off-camp.
Similarly, the registered families in camps on Thursday were 33,134 having 234,589 members which also include the old registered 11,843 families with 71,957 individuals.
During last couple of days the number of previously registered IDPs in camps have reduced from 91,017 individuals to 71,957 as large number of IDPs from Bajaur have left the camps in Lower Dir and returned back to their respective areas.
Presently, 16 camps have been established for the new IDPs in different areas. The camp at Dargai in Malakand has been housing around 7,488 families with 70,867 individuals. Another major camp is at Palai where 3,627 families have been registered having 24,726 individuals.
Moreover, in the New Jalozai Camp in Nowshera the number of registered families is 2,428 with 15,158 members. The earlier phases of Jalozai camp have already been housing 7,787 families from Bajaur and Mohmand Agencies with 47,738 individuals.
At the relief camps at Sheikh Yaseen and Sheikh Shehzad in Mardan so far 1,907 families (12,576 individuals) and 1,354 families (8,079 individuals), respectively, have been registered.
Among the off-camp IDPs the largest number, 69,055 families (587,356 persons), has been registered in Mardan, whereas 27,965 families (167,780 persons) have been registered in Swabi.
Similarly, 17,645 families with 140,727 persons have been registered in Malakand; 9,534 families (58,204 persons) in Peshawar; 6,316 families (44,267 persons) in Charsadda; and 3,042 families (20,575 persons) in Nowshera.

The provincial government has also increased the number of registration points from 16 to 40 in Mardan district, eight to 15 in Swabi district, seven to 15 in Charsadda district, three to 15 in Peshawar district, three to 10 in Nowshera district and three new points have been set up in Kohat district.
The NWFP Social Welfare Department is registering the IDPs in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
